Effective Ways of Relieving Back Pain

Effective Ways of Relieving Back Pain

According to the American Chiropractic Association, there are about 31 million Americans who suffer from lower back pain. Back pain is one of the most common causes of disability globally. The condition can become recurring, and although it often subsides, there are chances that it can become chronic.

The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services reports that people spend more money trying to alleviate back and neck pain than any other medical condition. While most people only pay heed to back problems when they happen, chiropractors suggest taking a preventative approach.

A Healthy, Anti-Inflammatory Diet

A study showed that more than 50% of Americans take an ultra-processed diet. Our diet plays a major role in developing inflammation that causes back pain. Develop a habit of taking an anti-inflammatory diet with lots of ginger and turmeric, which can help bring down the inflammation. Avoid eating meat or processed foods in excess, and make vegetables and fruit a staple part of your diet.

Avoid Smoking

There are far too many reasons why smoking is bad for you, but here’s another to add to the list: smoking makes you three times more likely to experience backache. A study published by Human Brain Mapping showed that smoking affects pathways of the brain, making smokers more susceptible to chronic back pain. The study also mentioned how people felt immediate relief from back pain after they quit.

Exercise Regularly

Chiropractors say that a lot of our pain and discomfort stems from a rather sedentary lifestyle. Moving your body is essential to keeping the muscles active and safe from any postural or mechanical injuries. You can try exercises like squats, plank, and dead-lifts that’ll help strengthen your core. Yoga is also a great way to work on your core and alignment. Incorporate exercise in your daily routine to keep your body in good form.

Kentucky Safe Chiropractic Treatments

Meditation

The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health published a review which indicated that meditation could help alleviate stress and anxiety. Stress is often the culprit behind back and neck pain—it can mess with your alignment and cause nerve irritation. Practice meditation for at least ten minutes every day, and notice how much healthier and relaxed you’ll feel!

Seek Chiropractic Care

Sometimes no amount of exercise, meditation or hot showers helps reduce the pain; that’s where chiropractors can help! A review published in the Annals of Internal Medicine claimed chiropractic care as one of the most effective non-pharmacologic ways of relieving back pain.
